Kilmeston Village Hall first class facilities, a focus and a forum for our village |
|||||||||||||
The Village Hall Committee extends a warm welcome to anyone who has recently moved into the village and hopes that this newsletter will give you a little bit of an idea as to how our Village Hall is used. You can see when the Hall is booked and when it’s available on this website – just click “bookings calendar” in the left panel - but bookings must be made by phone to Pamela Thomas on 01962 771590. You can also go for a virtual tour of the Hall. If you want to add anything to this newsletter, please contact Sue White 771796 or Graham Cresswell 771472. Village Hall News The hall is now an excellent facility which is available for hire to people within the village as well as other local groups or people who may be interested but who do not live within the village (please tell your friends!). We now have a very good kitchen with facilities for cooking/reheating food, plenty of electric points and a good commercial dishwasher and water heater. The Hall itself is large enough to hold more people than an average lounge but small enough to remain cosy, especially in the winter when you can have a nice log fire. There are several wall mounted heaters that can provide very adequate warmth during cold weather so there is no need to feel cold. The wooden flooring is fine for dances, parties or whatever function you may wish to hold. The toilet facilities are all new and there is plenty of space for hanging coats etc. There is an electric organ for our use. All facilities allow access for the disabled. Regular events On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the Hall is used by WildFlowers Kindergarten, which “gives young children the opportunity to learn through exploration, movement, creativity and interaction in nature”. Please contact Helena Nilsson on 01962 771816 if you would like more details or see www.wildflowers-kindergartens.co.uk. On the First Friday of every month (except January) at 7:30pm the Hall opens as a bar with a club licence. This is known as ‘First Friday’ and we would love to welcome more villagers. It’s an excellent way of getting to know other people within the village and having a chat over a drink (transport can be arranged). At 10 am on the 3rd Friday morning of each month there is a coffee club for the over-60s, affectionately known as ‘The Old Codgers’. Any person wishing to attend would be more than welcome and transport could be arranged if required. Please contact Pamela Thomas on 771590. Other regular users at the moment are the Angora Goat Society – their demonstration days are a great success and members of the public are able to try their hand at spinning, weaving and rug making as well as watching the experts demonstrating their skills. The Parish Council uses the facilities for its bi-monthly meetings. The Hall is also used as a polling station during elections. The Hall is available for hire at most other times as a morning, afternoon or evening or all day session so please book early to avoid disappointment! You can see our rates by clicking ‘hiring the hall’ and ‘hiring equipment’ on the panel on the left. These prices do not include electricity. There is a pre-payment meter which takes £1 coins which we ask you to top up as required. If you are using a lot of light and heating it will need to be checked on a regular basis. The Hall is frequently used for events such as children’s and adult parties, musical group practices, demonstrations, clubs and stop-over points for cyclists and we welcome any new bookings. It is possible to seat up to 70 people within the hall area. The committee would be very pleased to welcome people who would be willing to assist when we have functions. We all seem to be busy people and so any help would be much appreciated. Please contact any member if you wish to discuss a point. To see a list of the committee members, click ‘the Village Hall Committee’ on the panel on the left.
